What is Building Green?

Building Green is a new method of house construction that involves changing current typical construction processes to ensure the least amount of environmental impact. The build green process does not compromise structural integrity or aesthetic beauty and features benefits that are far reaching for both the home owner, and the environment.

While the days of using lead-based paint, asbestos, and toxic chemicals are long over, there is so much more that can be done to protect the environment during construction of a home. Building Green saves you money and time throughout the building process.

Finger-jointing lumber
Finger Jointing process:

The finger jointing process starts with cutting out knot holes, shakes, or splintering wood from a 2x4 or 2x6 and removing them from the board. The good sections of the board are then joined by cutting "fingers" into the ends of the wood pieces that are then glued at the finger joints producing what is called a finger-jointed board. This new board is straighter, stronger, and more durable in temperature and weather changes. The finger-jointed board is less likely to bow or bend as it takes on moisture from humidity in the air, or when it becomes dry in the winter.

The "finger jointed" lumber is assembled with a water-resistant adhesive (PCA) that conforms to the WWPA's Glued Products Procedures & Quality Control, C/QC 101.97. The result is a stronger, straighter, superior piece of lumber. This type of building green will save a substantial amount of wood that would normally be rejected due to flaws and defects.

FEATURE  GREEN BENEFIT
Joining several flawed boards with a "finger-jointing" process to produce several very high quality boards. Finger-jointing saves lumber. The only waste is the actual knot-hole or shake/splinter section cut from the board. the rest is salvaged. The resulting board is stronger, straighter, and superior in quality.

Panelized Construction vs. Stick Framing
Panelized Construction Process:

The wall unit is first engineered. This will provide specific cuts, dimensions, and lumber estimation prior to a wall unit's construction. Every dimension of the wall is known before the first cut is made. Jigs can be used to replicate similar or identical wall pieces in your home which provides tighter construction with more precision. This also adds strength and wall section continuity. Each section is constructed off-site directly from your plans and then transported to the job site. This also has the added benefit of

FEATURE
GREEN BENEFIT
Panelized Engineered Construction allows more precision which provides a tighter wall unit with fewer cuts and less mistakes. Provides a more efficient use of the lumber and stronger wall membranes.
Construction time can be reduced as much as 30%. Lower power usage. Environmentally friendly.
Wall units constructed "off-site" Less construction mess at job site. No dumpster full of wood at the end of a project means less land-fill usage.

HVAC
HVAC, or "Heating Venting Air Conditioning", is a total house system. It isn't just a construction add-on process, it is a total home system that allows for the proper planning of virtually every aspect of the new home's energy usage and air movement throughout the home. The standards are rigorous and Bayfront Builders exceeds them with each new home constructed. The basic idea of HVAC is to use the total house system approach to
to provide comfort for the home owner. Air quality, reasonable home energy costs, and maintenance is of great importance to Bayfront Builders. Our HVAC system provides control over inter-space air pressure and air movement. This control is specifically designed from the very beginning of your project to control room air distribution.
